Attach a temperature clamp to the flow pipe directly underneath the overheat thermostat coil and use a temperature probe to monitor the temperature of the nut above the pump

Observation:
Allow the burner to ignite and boiler to start heating the radiators.
Monitor the temperature differential between the flow and return.
Once the return pipe begins to heat the differential should be approximately 20°C or less.
Notes:
Differential may be higher on initial start up.
To reduce time taken for this test you may wish to turn off some radiators.
