Set Appliance State:

Set Multimeter to Resistance Set meter to measure resistance
Isolate Mains Power to appliance as per TOPs P4
Disconnect black wires from overheat thermostat

Measurement:

Measure resistance across terminals of overheat thermostat.
Note:
Overheat thermostat is of the manual reset type and should be open circuit if boiler is at an excessive temperature.
