Set Appliance State:

Set Multimeter to AC Volts 
Ensure NO demands are present
Gain access to detection electrode
Gain access to detection electrode

Measurement:
Reset appliance if required (press reset button for 2 seconds and release).
Measure for A/C voltage across end of detection electrode and
a suitable earth connection.
Expected voltage measured approximately 119 Vac.
Note.
Ensure a good connection is made to detection electrode otherwise misdiagnosis will occur (clean electrode if required).

and refit as necessary
