Using the AC Voltage Setting
Here the meter is being used to read the mains supply.
(This can vary from 215v to 250v.)
When reading any voltage (AC or DC) the value you see is the "potential difference" in charge between two points of a circuit. This is similar to reading a temperature differential across two points, if point one is 50 and point two is also 50 then the differential will be 0. If point one is 50 and point two 20 then the differential will be 30, this value is similar to the voltage.
AC voltage is used throughout appliances in various ways and at various values. It is measured by placing one probe on the "Live" and the another on the "Neutral" or "Earth" such as the appliance case or main earth connection.
Here the Multimeter is ready to read AC voltage.
