Why does a fuse blow?
A fuse has a rating in amps printed on the outside, if the current flowing through the fuse exceeds this rated value for an excessive time then the fuse "blows" (it melts). This breaks the circuit and disconnects the appliance. The higher the overload the shorter the period before the fuse blows.
